The Captivity Of Samson
- While he maintained his sacred vows – he tore a lion apart – Judges 14:6
- He killed a thousand men – Judges 15:15
- He took a hold of the doors of the city gate together with two posts and tore them loose. He lifted and carried them on his shoulders. – Judges 16:3
- In spite of his illustrious start he never fully mastered his carnal appetite.
Separation From Worldly Stimulation
- The world has a magnetic draw to stimulate you.
- Artificial attractions are designed to lead God’s people astray
- Enemy pressure is designed to seduce you – which at times is impossible to resist.
Separation From Worldly Reputation
- Pressure is put on individuals to contend for number one position
- They parade their personalities and achievements
- Do not be conformed to the standards of this world – Rom 12:2
The Tragedy Of Samson
Contamination By The World
- Samson found honey in the carcass of a dead lion
- He compromised and violated his vows and contaminated his life
Capitulation To The World
- He compromised his dedicated life under seductive pressure
- Tragedy followed, he fell and did not know the Lord had left him – Judges 16:20
- Flirting with the world paralyses your spiritual strength
- When we flirt with the world, we fail in the church
Co-Habitation In The World
- His eyes were put out – bound with fetters, he became a grinder in prison – Judges 16:21
- His captivity cost him his strength – sight – service
- Grinding corn in prison is reserved for animals
Victory Of Samson
Redeeming Features
- Samson prayed – “ O’ Lord God, remember me, strengthen me” – Judges 16:28
- In the times of doubt, problems and spiritual decline, Samson honored God with his faith and prayer
- His faith was strengthened through failure – he emerged from defeat to triumph
Restoration Through Faith
- His hair begins to grow , evidence of restoration – 16:22
- His prayer life became alive
- God heard his prayer and restored him through repentance
Vindication Through Faith
- During the proceeding , he asked a young man to guide him to the central pillars
- He exhibited the glory of God by killing his enemies – Judges 16:30
Divine Principals
- Only when we die to self can we expect ultimate victory.
- For Samson it meant physical death – for you and me it means judicial death – Rom 8:13
